How to Build an Email List from Scratch!

Spread the love

How do you keep in touch with your customers? Did you build an email list already? Building and email list is not simple as just adding a box to your website and asking people to sign up for your newsletter.

In order for people to want to engage with you, you will have to offer something of value. The good news is that there are so many awesome little ways that you can begin building your email list, starting today.

WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, YOUR EMAIL LIST = YOUR BUSINESS.

It is how you communicate with your gang, introduce your new offer and products, and build relationships with your customers and readers. Your email list is worth potentially tens of thousands (or even hundreds of thousands) of dollars, so you need to start growing yours now.

STEP #1 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: CREATE A FREE OPT-IN

This is a freebie that you offer someone in return for their email address.  It’s usually full of value because you want to give people something really fair in return for giving you their email address.  This might be a a free sample of product, a cheat sheet, a discount – the list goes on and on.

STEP #2 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: CREATE AN OPT-IN DOWNLOAD PAGE

Your opt-in download page is the page where somebody can fill out a form with their email address and be sent the free opt-in in return.  Also called a Landing Page, it’s very easy to do if you have a great email marketing software like Mailchimp or Constant Contact. When they fill out the form, it will add them to your email list, and it triggers an email that sends them the freebie.

STEP #3 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: AUTOMATE YOUR EMAIL LIST-BUILDING

I’ve come across a lot of people who manually send out their freebies to each and every person who signs up, simply because they don’t know how to automate it. Automation is very easy and a great email marketing software will have a step by step in how to create it.

STEP #4 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: PROMOTE YOUR FREE OPT-IN

Once all the systems are in place, all you need to do now is promote your free opt-in.  So, advertise it with Facebook Ads.  Tell your Instagram followers about it.  Put it on your homepage.  Anywhere where people are coming into contact with your business, you want to take the opportunity to try and capture them onto your email list.  Remember, once they’re on your list, you can build trust with them and start to nurture them into paying customers or clients.

STEP #5 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: TWITTER

Twitter is great! And in your profile you can add a link to your newsletter, if you use bit.ly to shorten it. This will allow people to join your email list without even leaving Twitter! Amazing right?

STEP #6 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SIGN UP IMMEDIATELY

You want to strategically place personalized CTAs (call to actions) where it counts — on landing pages and blog posts. But what about the rare, but real, visitors who want to sign up immediately?

If your newsletter primarily centers around one or two topics, it’s relatively easy to create a personalized CTA — simply write a CTA that mirrors your newsletter’s purpose, such as, “Want free Marketing hacks? Sign up for our newsletter!”

STEP #7 FOR BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST: MAKE SIGNING UP FOR YOUR EMAIL LIST EASY

Many brands tuck their newsletter sign-up boxes way down at the bottom of their homepage. There’s a good chance this prompt will go unnoticed by many would be interested visitors. But if your main goal is building an email list, then you need to prioritize placing multiple opportunities for people to give you their email address throughout the page.

All right, ladies! Now it’s time for you to start sending some emails. With the basics of email marketing now under your belt, it’s time to take advantage of email – one of your brand’s most powerful marketing tools.
