Choosing a Word for the Year
Early last year I went to a Vision Board party given by my friends at Latina Pro. At the seminar one of the exercises was to focus on choosing a word for the year. The idea is focused around having a central word or theme to guide your actions or what you want to embrace more of in the coming year. Rather than focus on new year’s resolutions that don’t stick, this is a more mindful and holistic way.
Today, I am doing the version of this with my close friends at my house and the word I have chosen is BELIEVE!
How do you choose a Word of the Year for yourself?
Take a moment to reflect what you need. Right now and going into the new year, what do you need? My word almost always forms from that question. Choose a word to remind you of what’s most important in the new year and stick with it.
Make a Word List. Write down all of the words that are calling out to you right now. They can be random words, don’t overthink it, just let the words release and flow out.
Narrow your options. Once you’ve come up with a few words you really love and feel like they can carry you through the year, narrow them down to just five or three words and let them sit with you for a day or week.
Who do you want to be? What qualities or traits do you want to bring into your life? Let your word inspire you to be that thing.
Let it find you. If there’s a word you just feel drawn to – even if it doesn’t make sense right now, take a leap of faith and go with it.
