Meet business owner and Miami Mompreneur Nicole Cosentino, a talented and amazing mom, owner of Downtown Chic Online Boutique. Nicole will help you maximize your style and empower you to dress for success no matter what you do for a living and she also gives back to the community. Let’s get to know more about Nicole in the interview below.
Tell us a little about yourself and your company.
My name is Nicole Cosentino and I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. My parents are immigrants from Argentina and Panama, and they instilled a strong work ethic in me from a young age. I started working at the age of 14 and have worked in the corporate environment for over 13 years in SF, LA, Dallas and Miami. I always loved to dress stylish at work and found that having a polished image had its advantages. Dressing for success helped me feel confident and provided me with so many opportunities. People love to work with people who radiate success and clothes transmits that energy.
In my third trimester of my pregnancy, I got inspired to follow my passion for fashion and empower women to dress for success. I started the business to stay home with my daughter and created Downtown Chic, an online fashion boutique for the modern working woman. My curated collection is not only stylish but also very practical. I pick pieces that transition from day to night and that can be styled more ways than one.
Describe yourself in 5 words.
Ambitious. Spiritual. Compassionate. Creative. Organized.
Please walk us through a day in your shoes as an entrepreneur.
Every day starts with gratitude and the word of the day from Joel Osteen along with reading a few pages from the book I’m currently reading. Then the morning madness starts, and I get the family ready for the day. I can’t live without breakfast and coffee. Once I drop my daughter off at school I head to the gym and then focus the rest of the day on my business. I’m on my laptop or phone updating my website, engaging on my social media platforms and working on my next collaboration. Each day is different because my priorities are not the same every day. I network with other femprenuers and organize the next dates for pop-up events. When I get new inventory, I spend the day adding the products on my website and promote them to my clients. I will also snap photos of the different ways my customer can style DTC outfits. My day always ends with eating dinner with my family and catching up on our day together.
How do you go about marketing your business and what tips can you give others?
I love doing local pop-up events because I’m able to meet customers and connect with them face to face and sell products. I gain a lot of customers this way because they get to know my brand up close and I get to share lots of style tips. With every purchase I collect email addresses which helps me build my email list so that I can send marketing campaigns in the future. I also value the power of collaboration. I connect with other businesses and create cross promotion campaigns that help each other create awareness between both audiences.
Have you ever had to sacrifice something at work to make the family work? Or vice versa?
I’ve learned to balance my priorities which help me take things a little easy. On some days I can dedicate my time to home and the business and other times one takes priority over the other. I believe that being flexible has helped me figure out where to focus my time so that I can accomplish my tasks.
What is the best thing to have happened to you because of “Downtown Chic”
The best thing about my business are the connections I have made these past 3 years. I have met so many incredible and supportive women that have become my friends. Also, my involvement with my favorite charity, Dress for Success provides me with a gratifying feeling of being able to give back to the Miami community. Dress for Success empowers women to become economically independent by providing them with clothes for their interview and other resources to find a job. I have the privilege of styling clients with clothes donated by other working women. I also donate 15% of my sales from my blazer collection back to the charity. I get to see firsthand the power of clothes and how the women feel when they are dressed for success. It’s a magical feeling.

How do you keep yourself organized and make time for everyone and everything? Any helpful tips?
I love to use the calendar on my phone. I schedule all my family plans, business meetings, play dates, events, gym sessions, self-care appointments and vacations. Everything is scheduled and I make a ton of lists. I generally know how long things take to do and that helps with managing my time. Lastly, I have a board in the kitchen with the weekly dinner menu that I plan out in advance which helps me when my time is limited.
Favorite fun thing to do with the family?
I love to travel with my husband, my 2 stepdaughters, my daughter and my Yorki. We have so much fun exploring together and trying different foods. I also love local family outings too.
How do you unwind from it all?
I like to watch tv at night when I have the opportunity. It helps me not think about anything aside from whatever show or movie I’m watching. I also enjoy riding my bike, yoga or doing a workout class at my gym to connect with my physical self.
What’s your favorite date night?
I love going out to dinner with my hubby and enjoying a nice glass of wine together. I also love to go dancing however in this season in my life it doesn’t happen as often but when it does it reminds me of our relationship before the kids.
Coffee and wine.
A piece of advice to Mompreneurs
There are so many resources out there so it’s important that the information doesn’t give you analysis paralysis. In other words, pick several topics you want to learn about and then put what you learned into practice. You then build off what you learned. What you don’t want to happen is that you get overwhelmed with so much information that you end up not doing anything.
